Merchants of Downtown Asheville (MODA)
MODA is an advocacy group with the goal of supporting and promoting small, locally owned businesses in Downtown Asheville.
-
A Cornerstone
Small businesses are the backbone of our business community in Downtown Asheville. Pictured here is Noir Collective in the historic YMI Cultural Center.
-
One of a Kind
In Downtown Asheville, you'll find one of a kind locally handmade items in many of our shops. We have a strong creative economy that offers mutual support between businesses, artists, and makers. Pictured here is a handmade hat from Asheville Home Crafts.
-
Shop like a Local!
We believe in shopping small and supporting local. Asheville has had a strong buy local campaign thanks to the organization called Go Local Asheville. They have worked to grow a resilient local economy and thriving community, champion the unique character of our region and advocate for prosperity for all.
Happenings
Ginkgo Marketplace
Ginkgo Marketplace is a small community market featuring local goods and WNC artisans. Enjoy beautiful Wall Street the last Saturdays of the month in the courtyard of 43 Wall Street from 10am-3pm.
Spring in Altamont
MODA organizes and collaborates with other organizations to produce fun, interactive, inspiring events. We invite locals and visitors alike to celebrate our small locally owned shops. Our merchants contribute to the unique, vibrant, and eclectic identity of Downtown Asheville! Meet the Dragon in person!
The Street Creature Puppet Collective will be performing Spring in Altamont at the Orange Peel during Connect Beyond Festival Sunday, May 31 at 3:30. Spring in Altamont is a short excerpt from the full length play Welcome to Altamont written by Rebecca Hecht. "Welcome to Altamont : A Love Letter to Asheville" uses the seasons as a vehicle to symbolize the cycles love relationships and the cycles towns experience as they gain popularity and gentrify. Small businesses are champions in the show's narrative, making the story relevant and relatable.
